Why does the man have to buy the wedding ring but the woman doesn't have to buy the wedding ring for the husband or pay for half of it? Why is it not cheap if a woman refuses to buy a ring? After all, look up "cheap" in the dictionary and it describes the action of the woman refusing to buy a ring. So she's cheap too, by literal definition right? Why is it OK then for a woman to be cheap but not a man? Maybe the man can buy the ring, and the woman can buy something equivalent, since she bases love on material things apparently? Why is her OWN love not measured by material things and money, but the husband's love is measured by if he buys a ring? It not only has to do with rings, but ppl want their dates, wedding, mortgage, phone bills, electricity, dinner paid for too. Not just rings.

I actually don't mind buying a ring............ but I want to know why my love is based on it and her's isn't based on money and what she buys. I feel like anybody demanding that they buy somebody anything is trying to engage in a power struggle, trying to one-up the other person, making them think that they're doing the other person a favor by giving them the time of day, and it must be subsisted with gifts, playing a LEVERAGE game.

You can say "Avoid relationships then". But I have the same need for companionship as you too, but women don't have to pay for this companionship like men do. So I want to understand the psychological underpinnings of these demands, as I just previously wrote.
Response: If I don't get married, I'll be celibate, so it's either marriage or celibacy. So many women after college want ONLY marriage. They will not even think about having a relationship with a guy if marriage isn't in the future. I like marriage for the commitment part, but not for the financial merging part if any future wife chooses to leave for "unhappiness" or if she meets someone new.

I was thinking more along the lines of taking a romantic vacation somewhere - just the two of us - and having a sort of ring ceremony...something simple, and more of an affirmation of our love than a renewal of our vows. It's kind of a one-sided thing though, since my husband already has a ring, and certainly doesn't need another. What do you think? Good idea or bad? Any ideas on details?
