Casting Aluminum Horn Ring?

Adam P asked:

I have just finished reading the book Casting Aluminum by Ammen. I want to cast a horn ring as used on an antique automobile. Here is an example http://www.vw-online.co.uk/acatalog/accessory_horn_ring.jpg
The ring has a really thin rim. I was thinking of using the method of plaster casting an aluminum alloy of A108 which contains high amounts of silcon. I'd use the old ring to make my mold. Heres the question:
Will Plaster casting be able to form those long thin rings without problem? I am concerned about cold lapping, where the ring will not form a complete unbroken circle.
